Let me tell you something about this paint commercial right here.
This used to run in almost every Puerto Rican cinema since 1992 to like 2010 or so. Before every single movie. For 20 years! Everyone I know form Puerto Rico, old and young, knows this song. We grew up on this song. You can start singing it anywhere in Puerto Rico and I promise you, you could start a flash mob.
They once tried to update it and made a cool one about this Titanium brand and it was slick and with rock music and people complained! To have the old commercial back! They WANTED a commercial back! One time I was in a theater and people stood up, put their hands to their hearts and sang it like the national anthem.
My family has had an almost decade long discussion as to what the actual lyrics are in a part that is somewhat hard to make out and my father claims it is a certain word and to this day we will still get into long discussions of singing it, looking up the video, confirming, arguing, etc.
And now they’re bringing it back in HD. In theaters again, for a new generation to enjoy.
You have no idea what this means to me. I wanna go back home and go to the movies again.
I am one of those people that sings it every single time as if it were the national anthem.
